Overview of Lake

Forest Neighborhood

Lake Forest is a neighborhood located in the northeast corner of St. Louis Park. Lake Forest is bordered by Burlington Northern Railroad to the north, 25th Street, Twin Lake, and Cedarwood Road to the south, France Avenue to the east, and Highway 100 to the west. The neighborhood occupies almost 200 acres of land and is a part of Ward 1. Douglas Rees, a real estate developer, platted Lake Forest in 1939. He bought 80 acres of land for less than 150 families, to provide for larger homesites. Only a few homes were built each year until construction stopped during World War II. Another 80 acres was eventually developed after the war.

Lake Forest is completely residential. There are 196 housing units, which are primarily single-family homes. The average construction year of houses is 1951. Even though most of the homes in Lake Forest are newer, the neighborhood is known for being an older and more mature development in the Twin Cities area.

The Lake Forest Neighborhood Group is one of the oldest neighborhood associations in St. Louis Park. The group was started in the 1950’s and organized various annual events for the community throughout the year. Today, the group’s primary event is its summer gathering.

Residents of Lake Forest venture to nearby neighborhoods for shopping, restaurants, and entertainments. Popular dining options exist across Highway 100 including PeiTheatre at Shops at West End in St. Louis Park, Minnesota Wei, Arby’s, Yard House, Raku Sushi, CRAVE, The Loop, and Copper Pub & Restaurant. Lifetime Fitness Center and ShowPlace ICON at West End movie theatre can also be found in the same area.

Lake Forest shares Twin Lakes Park with the Fern Hill neighborhood. Residents can enjoy water activities on the lake such as canoeing, kayaking, fishing, boating, and swimming during the warmer months of the year. Park amenities include a playground, ballfield, basketball court, and sun shelter.
